still here

Wow I can’t believe the last thing I posted was Happy New Year for 2014. And here we are in March already…almost the end of March for pity’s sake. How did that happen? As we all know the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and I had some, I promise, about the things I would share.

Yes we did see the great big impressive fireworks display for New Year – it was amazing despite starting late and having a weird gap in the middle. In fact we watched from a friend’s roof in Jumeirah, and when it seemed to be over I climbed down only to realise the finale was yet to come. I have to admit that I watched the ending on the TV..haha. But it was amazing. Yes it could be considered a waste of money by some, but the child in me really enjoyed it.

We have also tried a few new restaurants so far this year – the lovely Cafe Belge at the Ritz Carlton DIFC, and the very delish French spot in Vida Downtown called La Serre which we visited for our 9th (gulp) anniversary earlier this month.

I was very impressed with the food, as well as the portion sizes which surprised me. The prices in both cases were, shall we say, typical for Dubai which also means insanely expensive (as it is when you include a nice bottle of wine in a hotel eatery unfortunately).

We also tried the new Brunch…Break Slow at the Fairmont on the palm. The idea is slightly different from the normal Brunches in that you don’t go to a buffet to get your grub, they bring random breakfasty type dishes to you, and then you can order a hot breakfast from the menu. There are also stations for meat and various goodies where you help yourself. The dessert (that looks like a breakfast) is one of their signature dishes, and whilst quirky and interesting to taste I am not sure I would order it again.

a slower type of brunch…nice

I also tried Tom & Serg for a lunch earlier in the year, and I really liked the vibe, and the food. I had a warm lamb salad with feta, quinoa and pomegranate seeds – yummy!

We have been blessed with some more good rain as well which has been a nice surprise – Wednesday this week it poured most of the day causing the usual havoc and what-not with roads being flooded and buildings leaking like sieves. Sigh. Awful when the rain drops keep falling on your head – indoors 🙂

And that in a nutshell is what I have been up to.. How about you?
